Augusta, Ga. - David Maroul homered and drove in three runs, and Joe Martinez struck out seven in seven innings for his 10th win as the Augusta GreenJackets completed a four-game sweep of the Charleston RiverDogs with a 10-1 rout at Lake Olmstead Stadium on Saturday night.
After winning the first three games of the series by a total of four runs, Augusta (24-6 second half, 63-37 overall) erupted for four runs in the first inning against RiverDogs starter
Bryan Villalona (7-7), who was charged with eight runs on eight hits in 3-2/3 innings. Marouls 11th homer of the season, a two-run blast to left, opened the scoring. Julian Benavidez added a sacrifice fly, and Eugenio Velez scored on Villalonas second wild pitch of the inning for a 4-0 GreenJackets lead. Velez finished with three hits and three runs scored for Augusta.
Martinez (10-5), who has won four of his last five decisions, allowed just four hits and did not walk a batter. The right-hander was touched for a run in the third inning on
Austin Jacksons two-out RBI double, just the sixth run scored by Charleston (13-17, 51-49) in the series.
Maroul capped Augustas four-run fourth with an RBI single that knocked Villalona from the game. Benavidez and Ben Copeland also had run-scoring hits in the inning.
The GreenJackets added single runs in the fifth and sixth on sacrifice flies by Pablo Sandoval and Anthony Contreras.
