Augusta, Ga. - GreenJackets starter David McKae and two relievers held Charleston to two runs, and David Maroul had two hits including a run-scoring double as Augusta took a 4-2 decision over the RiverDogs on Friday night.
Augusta, which leads the Southern Division with a 23-6 second-half record and the South Atlantic League with a 62-37 overall mark, won its fifth consecutive game including three straight against Charleston. The RiverDogs fell to 13-16 and 51-48.
Ben Copeland grounded a single to center leading off the bottom of the first against RiverDogs starter
Garrett Patterson (0-3). After a walk and a hit batsman loaded the bases, RBI groundouts by Mike Mooney and Eugenio Velez gave the GreenJackets a 2-0 lead.
Marouls double in the third inning drove in Copeland to make it 3-0.
McKae (4-1) retired the first nine RiverDogs batters before
Austin Jackson led off the fourth inning with a bunt single.
Tim Battles hit sent Jackson to third, but Battle was thrown out at second when he tried to take an extra base.
Ben Jones came through with an RBI single to cut Augustas lead to 3-1.
McKae left after five innings, and Sergio Romo struck out the side in order in the sixth. He had retired his first eight batters before Jacksons two-out infield hit in the eighth inning. After a single by Battle,
Marcos Vechionacci grounded a hit to center, driving in Jackson as the RiverDogs closed the gap to 3-2.
After Patterson allowed three runs in three innings, Charleston reliever
Eric Wordekemper worked the final five frames, his longest outing of the season. Wordekemper yielded a two-out RBI single to Antoan Richardson in the eighth.
Wayne Foltin recorded his 14th save for the GreenJackets, retiring Jones on a popup with two runners on base to end the eighth inning and finishing the game with a perfect ninth.

Bryan Villalona (7-6, 3.59 ERA), who defeated Augusta in a relief appearance at Riley Park on April 9, will take the mound for the RiverDogs against Joe Martinez (9-5, 3.63) .
